INDEPENDENCE VISITOR CENTER
The Visitor Experience Improvement Project at the Independence Visitor Center involved a multi-phase project to reinvigorate the public space in the building. The first phase included building a new a restroom addition with a new terrace above that allowed for a significant increase in the size of the gift shop. The second phase was a new orientation theater and film that opens up to the main hall along with a new NPS desk and exhibit about Independence Historical Park, and the third phase was a new 18 screen interactive “concierge wall” that interacts with visitors as they walk by and highlights all the exciting activities available in and around Philadelphia. It also included a new desk for visitor center staff and a new “Hershey’s Kitchen” café at the north end. Our responsibilities on this project included selecting the architectural and exhibit design teams, managing the design process, overseeing film production and interactive design. We ran the selection of the AV hardware Integrator and coordinated their work with the exhibit team and the architectural team. We were also the project managers for the construction of the original building and exhibits in 2002.
